The Atlantic Split Characters

The lifeblood of Atlantic Split and the rest of The Luke Bright Series are the characters that make up the books. I pride myself, as an author, on creating realistic, varied characters with solid backstories and believable emotions. After all having a great and unique plot is one thing, but if you don’t have the characters to do the plot justice then you won’t have a good story.

In Atlantic Split there are five main characters and below is some more information about them (mild spoilers below.)

Luke Bright:

Nineteen year old Luke Bright is the central character in Atlantic Split and the title character of the series. He’s British and has lived in South Kensington, London his whole life. He’s come from a sheltered family background and has been both unlucky in love and in friendship. Luke is just about to start his first job as a police officer at the Kensington Police Station, though his real dream is acting. He’s compassionate, naive, immature and he’s always willing to help others – even if it is to the detriment of his own self. His heart overrules his head and though he’s extremely skilled at his police job, he’s still got a lot to learn about keeping his emotions in line.

Steve Jackson:

Steve is one of the Americans that comes over to Britain on a business trip, only to be accused of committing a serious crime. He’s twenty-five years old and is both humorous and sarcastic, as well as being quite the ladies man. Steve is hot-headed and has a temper on him, though when it comes to protecting his friends, he is extremely loyal and will go to extreme lengths to protect them. He looks up to his best friend James and is determined to get him back home to his family.

James Cunningham:

James is the other American that comes over to Britain on a business trip and he, like Steve, is also accused of committing a serious crime. At thirty-two years old, James is a family man with a wife and young son back in New York who he is desperate to get home to. He’s a kind character who’s able to keep Steve in line. James is extremely logical and devoted to both his family and his friends. He is often forced to play peace-maker, a role he doesn’t particular want, but feels is a necessity.

Marco Brown:

The main antagonist in Atlantic Split is forty year old Marco Brown, a Sergeant at the Kensington Police Station where Luke has just started working. Marco becomes Luke’s first police partner, something neither of them are happy about. Marco is grumpy and brazen, and he doesn’t mind bending the rules to suit him. He is high up in the ranks at the police station and both respected and feared by his colleagues.

Chrissie Roberts:

Chrissie is Luke’s ex-girlfriend, who has recently graduated with a law degree at the age of twenty-one. She’s extremely beautiful and clever, but treated Luke badly when they were in a relationship at school. Chrissie represents Luke as a lawyer in Atlantic Split, allowing old feelings between them to be brought up once again. Whilst Chrissie has changed from when she was younger, Luke has changed an awful lot too, so will their relationship recover considering all that has gone on between them since?

I hope you enjoy reading Atlantic Split and find these characters interesting, relatable and also realistic. That’s how I’ve aimed to write them and without them, Atlantic Split wouldn’t be the book it is today!
