In a war, there’s always two sides and in The Snowflake Series, it’s no different. Millennials vs boomers. Before I start this blog, I must stress I have nothing against individuals in that generation, but as a whole, I can see what this generation has done to ours, but they’re not bad people. It’s just the circumstances we all grew up in is different, and that’s why this series isn’t about all boomers. It’s about a small hate-group who I’d like to talk about today, because I’m pretty sure you’ll know people who could fit right in.
And this hate-group has a name, and they’re everywhere online. They’re called the MTM association – Make Them Melt.
Warning: This blog contains minor spoilers for The Snowflake Trap.
The Snowflake Trap begins with certain boomers in Leasford acting quite shifty and adamantly trying to encourage the town’s millennials to attend Leasford’s Annual Job Fair. It’s almost like the start of a horror movie, where you know something isn’t quite right, but you’re not sure what. More and more boomers seem to be in the know and it’s unclear how far it stretches or how many people are involved. It seems like it’s the whole town, but it’s not – it’s only a minority hate group. Deadly, but a minority nonetheless.
That itself isn’t too different from society. I’ve mentioned before about the people online who use the words ‘snowflake’ and ‘woke’ as a weapon when there’s no reason to. The far-right who will just shut down and condemn anything or anyone that disagrees with their ideologies – sounds a bit like cancel culture to me. And that’s exactly what this book series is: it’s cancel culture, literally this radical group of boomers cancelling the millennial generation.
But, what’s the reasoning behind it, and why did this group become such a great inspiration for villains? Well, firstly, because they’re real, but it’s not all about their hatred and intolerance, it’s also about the generational divide and the unawareness of it all. Boomers are so different to millennials, and we both have parts of our lives we can’t understand. We’ll always clash because there’s a lack of understanding and it’s not because boomers are bad people, it’s because there’s a genuine gap between us. With our parents, with our colleagues, with celebrities – the majority of it isn’t due to malice, it’s due to a lack of education and communication. Most of these people, if you just explain, are willing to educate themselves. That’s just as important, if not more important, to highlight as the hate groups, because these people can become accidentally embroiled in what the hate groups are saying, agreeing and preaching what they can’t understand, and then once it’s gone too far…
That’s why this book series is as much for boomers as it is for millennials. Sure, it might not be as relatable, but it’s there to teach the boomers the truth about our generation, especially parents of millennials, and why this whole anti-woke movement is so dumb. And how severe it can turn if it gets into the wrong hands. Because what these select few MTM members are planning is genuinely plausible. With the amount of hatred there is, what’s to say that some radical boomer isn’t going to decide to take it further? It could happen which is why it’s such a scary thing to write about. Some of the stuff in that book is based on completely real comments from these people online.
So, if you are a boomer who decides to read this book series, or you happen to show it to a boomer, please remember, it’s not an anti-boomer book series, it’s an anti-MTM book series – and that group can span any age or generation. I’m against that minority who want to stop the world changing because it doesn’t suit them which is why I’d like to end on a great tweet from a fellow author Neil, Neil Gaiman:
“They see the world as they are, not as it is.”
If that doesn’t sum up the anti-woke movement, I don’t know what does.
The Snowflake Trap is OUT NOW and the remaining two books of The Snowflake Series will be released in the next couple of years.
