I’m really excited to share more about the book and the series in the lead up to release, but first, let me start by explaining why I chose to write this story.

Back when I was in my early twenties, you couldn’t move for boomers and news outlets complaining about millennials. Every day it was something new – we’re spending money on avocado toast, not saving for houses, we’re destroying the doorbell and cereal industry, we don’t understand how to do basic DIY, all the sensational stuff that the public got hooked on and we became the misunderstood, downtrodden generation. Everyone complained and said we were too sensitive, entitled, lazy, and we got labelled snowflakes. Back then, we were still young: students, graduates, starting out our careers and we didn’t have a voice, because the people who held the top positions were the people against us – and that includes our family members. But as time progressed, we started to get the upper hand, and society didn’t like it. The word ‘snowflake’ turned into ‘woke’ and is still being used as an insult, but this time, it’s different because the people using it don’t have that upper hand anymore. We do. And we’re in a position to make our difference.

It was around that turning point that I chose to write this book because whilst millennials were starting to shape their paths, there were still people trying to drag us down. And we were still pining for our idealistic dreams and wanting more opportunities than we could afford – we were still the same people that everyone hated, and even Gen Z started to hate us. And that’s when I knew, my book couldn’t just be about a war of the generations, it had to be about changing the perspective of what millennials are really like which is why a huge amount of psychology went into creating the people and situations in the book. Plus, when I started reading up on the psychology of why millennials have turned out like they have, it was as if someone was describing me, so I knew I had to tackle this issue. I had to redeem my snowflake generation.

And you’ll see that in the book – the characters may start off a bit snowflakey, but as you progress through, you’ll see exactly why they’ve turned out that way and what they’re truly going through, and it’s all because of how they were brought up, and who (and what generation) brought them up. I find it so interesting that the generation of our parents are the generation that incited hate towards us – they’ve truly only got themselves to blame and that made for such an interesting concept. A Frankenstein-like concept if you will.

Another thing I really wanted to achieve from this book series was a way to tackle some really important societal issues. Racism, sexism, mental health, transphobia, xenophobia, they’re all massive things that I knew I wanted to bring in, and my amazing cast (you’ll hear more about them soon) I hope will become beacons in these areas. Not as tokens, but because they’re real diverse millennial characters facing real issues so many of us have had to go through to get by.

With all that in mind, I really hope you love and take a chance on this new series. If you’re looking for an answer to the question ‘how do millennials deal with what’s essentially an apocalypse’ you’ll find out. We may not be the most savvy or knowledgable generation, but we’ve certainly got some great intuition. I really have had a lot of fun with this premise, and this book especially, and even though it gets quite dark at times, I really hope it helps show the world who millennials really are. We’re misunderstood and we’ve been given a bad name for years, but we’re only that way because of the world we’ve been brought up in and the people who shaped us.

And as for the boomers in the book? While some of them are villains, I must stress that it’s a minority. This isn’t a full-blown war between young and old, it’s a radical group of boomers who think they know what’s best and are using the dirtiest methods possible to achieve it. But, even though they’re mighty, they’re small, and that’s why we need to be cautious about painting everyone with the same brush, because sometimes these people can have the loudest voices and drown out the good ‘uns. So, before you think it’s an anti-boomer book series, it’s really not. It’s anti anyone who thinks that ‘snowflake’ ‘woke’ & ‘PC’ are insults and can’t understand why a more inclusive, fairer world is a better place to live in than the backwards, narrow-minded place that came before. And if you know someone like that and disagree with them? Then I hope you will find some catharsis in this book series, so, give it a pre order today and get ready for an adventure!
