It’s official, and I really can’t believe it. The Luke Bright Series is fully published! After nearly fifteen years of writing this book series, it’s really out there for you all to read. I can’t wait to hear your reactions, especially to those upcoming twists! My first thought is…now what do I do?

I never imagined how it would feel to have a whole series published; I’m still getting my head around Atlantic Split’s release which was nearly three years ago! It does feel like a huge weight has been lifted and it feels freeing to know that Luke’s journey is at an end, and mine is too. However, there’s plenty more waiting for me.

For now, I’m leaving young adult books behind, and delving into books written towards more mature audiences. Whilst my main characters are never going to be that old, it’s time to try something different because since writing The Luke Bright Series a lot has changed. I’ve aged a lot and what I wanted to write about back then was much more suited to the age I was, whereas now as I’m approaching the end of another decade of my life, I’ve found the books I’m writing need to be much more grown up.

So, what’s awaiting me in the future? Well, I’ve already mentioned my works in progress that I’ve been writing alongside this series, which can now have my whole undivided attention, and with that is going to come a lot of change relating to ‘Neil A. King’ the writer. After all, now I have to figure out how to be a writer without the crux of one idea shaping everything I do. I’ve got to explore the rest of the writing world and figure out just what kind of books I want to tell now that the book series that made me into a writer is now ready to leave behind.

And as for Luke and me. I know I’m never going to stop writing about him and we’ll always have a special bond. We’ve grown together and changed together, and there’ll always be a part of me that is Luke. So I suppose in letting him go, I’m letting that part of myself go. It’s been quite an adventure, and I know neither of us could’ve done it without the other. I just hope he’s happy with what I gave him because what he gave me is beyond anything I could’ve ever imagined.

So now, as the rest of the year carries on, I’ll still be posting regularly – especially since we’re still in the timeline of A Long Lost Time in Luke’s alternate reality, and there’ll also be plenty of theme blogs coming your way! But you can expect next year for me to look very different. I can’t wait to see what the future holds beyond the series, but I’ll never forget what it’s done for me. It’s where this all began, and now it’s come to a fantastic, fitting end. And I can’t wait to see what’s coming up next…
