Getting back to normal

The start of lockdown and the pandemic feels like ages ago – a whole different world and now we’re coming out to see the other side. Children are going back to school, offices are reopening and people are getting their chances to go on holiday (although probably not too far away!) So what’s next?

One thing I’ve always wondered is whether COVID-19 will have a lasting impression on how we look at life. Will we take what we’ve learnt this year into the next? Connecting more and taking more time out for ourselves? Or will it go back to how it was and we’ll just ignore what happened? Even though COVID-19 has left a devastating impact on us, there are good things that have come out of it, and I think those are the things we need to reflect on.

For me, it’s been fantastic having extra time at home and less time rushing around. I’ve been pretty productive over these last few months and I’ve gotten used to this way of life (as an introvert it’s understandable why.) I think being part of something so surreal as a pandemic and seeing human reactions to it also gives you a better idea of how to develop characters and how they’ll react to different situations.

Either way, next year’s going to look very different and I think it needs to. I’m going to be someone who looks back at this time period as a challenge that brought to light a lot of useful learnings. There’ll be others who will look at it differently, but I think for all of us, it’s put things into a perspective we never knew we needed. Let’s just hope that next time we need to have a whole world shut down, it’s for a good reason and not something like a pandemic!
