Snowflakes in July

Last year, I completed National Novel Writing Month (Nanowrimo) but month, I accidentally completed the same challenge in July. It wasn’t my intention, but somehow I ended up starting writing my latest novel – the sequel to the one I wrote in November – on the 1st July and by the end of the month, I had around 75K words. That’s something I wasn’t expecting!

I’d always intended The Snowflake Trap to have a sequel or two, and before I started writing in July, I planned both out carefully. However, it was only when I started writing book two – The Snowflake Army – I realised how much there was still left to discover, and I absolutely loved the process.

This is what makes me love writing, just the pure unfiltered, unrestricted sense of creation where you can do whatever you want. Where you can make up new scenes and create new depths to characters that you didn’t expect. I’ll be honest, initially, I didn’t connect as well with the characters as much as I wanted, but delving further into their pasts and their emotions and actions has really made me cherish them. I feel like I know them now even though I created them less than a year ago.

After knowing the characters in Luke Bright’s world for so long, it does feel weird that another book has got such a range of characters in it that are quite different to those. It’s refreshing and I loved exploring them and delving deeper into the middle of the plot before the series ends with the final book (which I’m sure I’ll get onto writing soon)!

Also, I must say that this book contains possibly one of the saddest most cruel bits of content I’ve ever written. Even I hate myself for what I did!

So, whilst the focus still remains on Luke for now, we’ll see where it goes in the future. I’m just excited that I can still create new projects and that this particular one was actually very easy to write and complete as a second draft – much easier than some of the books in The Luke Bright Series! It’s been a very productive July and whilst I’m not entirely sure whether I’ll be doing it (since I’ve got my novel-in-a-month fix already), we’ll see whether November is going to be just as productive.

Atlantic Split, At Liberty To Live and An Undercover Dream, the first three books in The Luke Bright Series are available to purchase NOW! The final book of the series A Long Lost Time will be released in 2020!
