We have to make a stand

This week, there’s only one thing I can blog about. Well in fact, there’s two, but let me start with the first.

On Monday 25th May, police in Minnesota murdered George Floyd. It wasn’t police brutality, it was murder. And on every single level, it was wrong. Just because of his race. It’s 2020 and this should NOT be happening anymore. How can this be happening?

All over the world, protests have begun, despite lockdown people have been gathering to make a stand. It is a very difficult thing to justify for people who don’t understand – especially in the middle of a pandemic – but it’s only once you’re affected you truly know what you have to do. It’s necessary to make people listen. I just hope people can remain safe out there, but something has to be done.

Racism and prejudice in every form is wrong. They’re senseless, immoral and unjustified. We all need to make a stand to eliminate them for good. In whichever way we can. The reason I wrote my books was so people who may not be affected directly by racism and prejudice could understand it when it’s put into their terms. The two most powerful nations acting like one group is better than the other. I did it in the hope that people who can’t understand will start to. Because it’s going to take as many people as possible to fight this. Even if you’re not directly affected, we need to stand for those who are.

And now onto my second point which is rightly dwarfed in comparison and no where near going to be as horrific as what happened to George Floyd, but it needs to be spoken about. Dominic Cummings. A member of Parliament who’s meant to be setting the rules and sticking to them. Not breaking them. A man who has got away with something so many others were scared into not doing. And the slippery government are shielding this ridiculous man. For what reason?

I know, it was weeks ago, but we mustn’t let people get away with this either. For too long the UK has been under the rule of people who just don’t get it. Tories who are so far removed from what the people need and can get away with breaking their own rules. It has to stop and we can never let them forget it until he’s gone. Compared to what’s happened to George Floyd, it’s so minimal, but it’s not nothing. It’s happened. They’re hiding something from us and this government needs to be outed for the liars they are.

We need to get rid of the Tories and Trump. We need these last few years to be repaired and start moving forwards. So people can trust again, and feel safe again. So we can leave these dark ages behind and get to where we should be now in the 2020s. We should be so civilised, so full of love and understanding and we are instead just as separated as we used to be hundreds of years ago. No. It’s not good enough. It’s not right.

So how can we help, especially when protesting is unsafe at this current time? There are places to donate to for George Floyd such as: https://www.gofundme.com/f/georgefloyd . But also, we need to keep talking. We can’t let him be forgotten and we can’t let what the police there did be forgotten. We can’t let any of this fade away, and with regards to Dominic Cummings, that can’t be forgotten either. We need to keep the conversation going until justice is enacted.

This world can only change with us all playing our part to make it better. And we have to start by stopping these authority figures getting away with their actions. So never silence yourself because as soon as you silence yourself, you make what they did fade away.
