Have you heard the news? The final book of The Luke Bright Series is getting published this year! It’s a huge milestone for me, so I thought in this week’s blog I’d give a bit more background to a book that really needed to live up to expectations.
When I was writing the first draft of this book in full, I kept putting it off. Firstly because I wanted it to be a perfect first draft and secondly because I didn’t want it to end. I had so much riding on this book being the perfect finish to the series, that I didn’t want to just write anything. I wanted it to be ready as soon as it was done. Of course, I know even now there’s going to be work to do on it, but it’s the best I’ve felt about a first draft…ever probably.
As for the title, again, that was something that I knew I had to choose carefully. I wanted it to be just as impactful and memorable as the rest, but even more so, because it would be the last one you’d see. However, A Long Lost Time is the best way I can describe that book, and the title has so many different meanings. In fact, I revealed it in An Undercover Dream. Did you notice?
There’s also a huge amount of pressure when writing a ‘finale’ – will everyone be satisfied with how it ends? I really hope you are as I’ve spent a long (lost!) time trying to get every character’s arc right. I believe everyone gets their moment, and it’s a good way to conclude this journey. It’s certainly been eventful.
So, how will I be spending the time leading up to release? Well, mainly by cutting the book down! There’s a huge amount of content and though I believe it’s all necessary, I’m sure my editor will disagree! I’m really excited to spend the best part of this year getting this book ready for you all. It’s going to take some time, but I promise it’s going to be worth the wait!
Atlantic Split, At Liberty To Live and An Undercover Dream, the first three books in The Luke Bright Series are available to purchase NOW! The final book of the series A Long Lost Time will be released in 2020!
