We’ve all heard of imposter syndrome but what we may not realise is how many famous people have it. In this week’s blog, I’m discussing the power of self belief and why self published authors especially should remember they deserve their success.

Imposter syndrome – not feeling like you deserve your success, is something that is actually very key to The Luke Bright Series. Not just because Luke literally pretends to be different people, but because his task is one that he doesn’t always believe he can fulfil. It makes up a big part of the book and you’ll find out soon when you read it and get to see the upcoming theme blogs!

However, it’s something authors feel too, especially self published authors. Sometimes, self publishing can feel like cutting corners. Like you’ve gone the back way to publish your book and it used to be almost shameful. People still ask me who I’m published with and sometimes I feel I have to validate the fact that I just chose to publish myself. But I shouldn’t have to and neither should others. Self publishing is just as good as traditional publishing and sometimes it’s even better. Your readers dictate your chance not people who are paid to do so.

I’ve written a lot before about how hard self publishing is but I don’t think people realise just how much effort goes into it. You do everything yourself and you wear so many hats. You earn your own success. Who needs a lucky break when you can create one yourself? I think that’s far more commendable.

So, all I’m asking is to believe in yourself. You deserve all the success you’ve created for yourself. If I had let a lack of confidence rule my emotions then I wouldn’t be where I am today in any walk of life. It’s all about taking the leap and believing you can even though you don’t know what’s going to happen.
