I love exploring, but I’m fortunate to be able to come back to the same place each year for a break. It’s a little place close by where I feel very inspired and I think every writer should discover a place like this, where writing comes naturally and ideas arrive in bounds. So here’s a blog about mine:

We started coming here around seven or so years ago and it hasn’t always been a writing zone for me. But some of my very best ideas have been born and cultivated in this place. In fact I completed important drafts of both At Liberty To Live and An Undercover Dream here. I have very vivid memories of those moments and I can still remember when I tried to tackle that important idea that has eventually become a big part of The Signs Are Coming whilst staring out at a clear blue sea before me.

Sometimes, you just need to get away from your normal environment and go somewhere new to get a different perspective on ideas and life. That’s why so many people go to writers retreats and why there are famous authors who have written whole books whilst staying in different towns and cities. Plus, being in such a gorgeous and calming setting with the calmness of the beach really makes it much easier for me!

However, sometimes I come here and I don’t get the time or don’t feel like writing and that’s okay. Inspiration is something you can’t push, so whilst the place is important, it isn’t the only factor. It can strike at any time – usually for me it was when I had important exams or priorities!

But, I can safely say that this time it’s a place of inspiration and ideas. Especially coming back and knowing this is where one of the most pivotal scenes of An Undercover Dream was written. I’ve been writing and coming up with new ideas and being here just feels like coming to a refreshing version of home.

Every author should have a place like this, and though sometimes you have to search for where it could be, sometimes it’ll just become obvious over time.
