Just before I published At Liberty To Live, I made Luke Bright carry out the Proust Test. If you haven’t heard about it before, it’s a questionnaire that French writer Michael Proust created it to delve into the deepest parts of an individual’s personality. I’m going to redo this every time another book ends because Luke’s story is one of growth and change. This is part 2 of 4 as we transition into An Undercover Dream, you’ll be able to see that some things have changed since part 1 and so has Luke.
WARNING – THIS BLOG CONTAINS SPOILERS FOR ATLANTIC SPLIT AND AT LIBERTY TO LIVE
1. What is your idea of perfect happiness?
Finding the place I belong. Being able to be with both my friends and my family and I’d no longer be on the run. Failing that, I’d love to have a girlfriend again but I know I can’t let myself go back there. It’s not fair on them.
2. What is your greatest fear?
Never seeing my family or friends again.
3. What is the trait you most deplore in yourself?
My temper probably.
4. What is the trait you most deplore in others?
Prejudice and judgement. And controlling others. Can I have 3?
5. Which living person do you most admire?
My best friend Steve.
6. What is your greatest extravagance?
Food!
7. What is your current state of mind?
I’m focused on building a new life for myself but…it’d help if I knew what I was going to do.
8. What do you consider the most overrated virtue?
Doing too much for others who don’t appreciate it back. Naming no names!
9. On what occasion do you lie?
When I’m pretending to be someone else, so yeah basically all the time lately.
10. What do you most dislike about your appearance?
I was pretty confident as Danny Springer, but my hair dye is coming out so I need to get a new disguise quickly.
11. Which living person do you most despise?
At the moment it’s Jack Shore but Marco always tops that list.
12. What is the quality you most like in a man?
Being able to stand up for themselves.
13. What is the quality you most like in a woman?
Trusting me would be nice! I can think of plenty of things I didn’t like about Linda. But I think being a feminist, a real feminist, is so important.
14. Which words or phrases do you most overuse?
At Donatello’s it was probably “can I take your order?”
15. What or who is the greatest love of your life?
I thought that could be Linda but now I realise that we just weren’t right for each other. I can’t let myself fall for someone again so…I dunno…staying away from love for a while.
16. When and where were you happiest?
James, Steve and I had a really great time in Paris last year, despite almost being caught. Steve and I had some brilliant times together in the apartment and that night when everyone came to see me down at Donatello’s was amazing. Tom and I had great fun too, and even with Linda there were good times…god I miss them all so much…
17. Which talent would you most like to have?
I’d love to be able to draw as well as Tom!
18. If you could change one thing about yourself, what would it be?
I’d make myself older. Not loads, just a little. Just so I could be more mature and have my life a bit more sorted.
19. What do you consider your greatest achievement?
Stopping James and Steve from being killed by Wicks and helping everyone at Donatello’s.
20. If you were to die and come back as a person or a thing, what would it be?
Definitely a Hollywood actor!
21. Where would you most like to live?
At the moment, I’m dreaming of Hollywood, though I have no idea what to do when I get there.
22. What is your most treasured possession?
My Converse!
23. What do you regard as the lowest depth of misery?
Never knowing your true purpose
24. What is your favourite occupation?
Acting!
25. What is your most marked characteristic?
Being able to have a positive impact on people’s lives. I think that’s pretty awesome.
26. What do you most value in your friends?
How much they looked after me and helped me these last few months. They gave me a home and allowed me to live with them. They’re so wonderful…I don’t know what I’m going to do without them.
27. Who are your favourite writers?
I don’t really read much, though I’d love to read To Kill A Mockingbird again considering all that happened.
28. Who is your hero of fiction?
Atticus Finch (again from Mockingbird.)
29. Which historical figure do you most identify with?
Martin Luther King Junior
30. Who are your heroes in real life?
Revolutionary figures and on the day we went to Florida, it was 100% Steve. That guy is so flipping brave.

Danny! Though I have to find a new name soon.
32. What is it that you most dislike?
Dickheads like Jack Shore and Marco trying to bully others.
33. What is your greatest regret?
Killing Wicks and…letting mine and Linda’s relationship last so long.
34. How would you like to die?
I’d really rather not die! Not this young anyway.
35. What is your motto?
Always look on the Bright side. The Luke Bright side. I miss you, Mum.
