It’s a sign…

Around a year ago, I went back to writing a book I hadn’t touched in years. I managed to get a first draft together and it’s taken me a long time to go back to it. Why? I guess I just wanted an already finished product. However, going back to it came with a big surprise – a 10 or so year old surprise!

I had an idea around 10 years ago for a situation which I could base a book around and I never ever seemed to figure out what that was. However, I knew if I didn’t write that idea into something, I would regret it. So, I recently considered how I could put that into the book I had been neglecting all these years. And not only did that idea come to me, but as I researched my book further, it was that missing piece I was looking for. It was killing two birds with one stone and writing two books with one idea.

It’s been an exciting and sometimes frustrating process because this book needs a huge amount of research, but as I expand my search online, I find more and more curiosities that can become part of the plot. It’s almost as if the book is writing itself in some ways!

And that got me thinking about fate. I always worried with this book, was I the right person to write it? Was I going to be able to tell this important story as it should be written? There are so many layers to it and it’s become so complicated and needs to be treated with such care and precision. But, then I thought – well, it came to me for for reason. As pieces start falling into place and it becomes easier and easier to figure out, I realise that this book was meant to be for me. I was meant to write this and somehow I’ve been given the task of sharing it with the world. Ironically, it almost feels like a sign.

So that’s what I’m going to do. I’m going to persist, even if I feel like it’s getting too complicated or it goes over my head. It’s a challenge and it’s been going on for over ten years, so I’m going to do my best to do it justice. It’s exciting, it’s scary, and it’s important.

But it’s my story to tell, and one day I’m going to publish it.
