Two’s company. Three’s a game changer.

Tomorrow is the big reveal for book 3 in The Luke Bright Series. The name, the cover and the blurb are all just waiting to be shared with the world and I can’t wait to see what you think! It’s a big moment for me, because this book is one of my favourites, but also it’s a game-changer, not only for the series, but for me as an author.

As you may have read previously, At Liberty To Live was spawned from a dream.  The ending of that book was something I dreamt up and it never changed in all those years. Well, with book 3, something very similar occurred. I had the dream of the setting and two of the main characters in that book with Luke. Though it’s hard to remember exactly what happened (as it was over a decade ago), this never changed. I have to also give some credit to one of my favourite TV shows of the time, Waterloo Road which gave me a huge inspiration for this particular book. However, I always knew where this book would be set and who would be in it. That is…up until very recently.

I got the edit back for book 3 a couple of weeks ago, and my editor pointed something out that gave me a reality check. It was something I’d always niggled with and known to be a risky plot, but seeing someone else impartial point it out made me realise that something had to change. The book had to change and that worried me, what with it only being a couple of weeks back then until I was doing my new social media launch. And with only a few months to publish. Though I made a massive change back in At Liberty To Live, this was before the edit, this…this was going to change much, much more.

Book 3 is officially the book in The Luke Bright Series with the most edits. The reason why is because I could never quite get the story to be as compelling as I wanted it to be. It was similar to At Liberty To Live, and I did struggle, wondering how to change it up. It was a shame because the whole book is fantastic and has some brilliant themes, some of the best characters and an ending that stands out among it all. It just needed something, and there were two ways I could tell this story and I’d been battling for years as to which way was the correct way. I eventually settled on the first route and worked with that, but the edit meant I was going to have to revisit the second one, but that made me realise what was missing.

I needed to merge the two. And that is what I’m doing now.

It’s a little scary to think that this draft of the book is still not fully written and I’m already making plans to release it, but that just goes to show that writing is a constant, changing process. It’s never static and there’s always new stuff that can be done and things that can be changed. The book isn’t unrecognisable but it’s certainly very different from what I started with. It’s become a challenge, but the most exciting and thrilling challenge and the time pressure has made it even better. I can’t wait to see where this book takes me and I bet the version I publish in (hopefully) summer 2019, is going to be very different to what I have now. I’m just proud I’ve finally got this book on the right path and believe me when I say, it is definitely going to surprise a lot of people. It’s the pinnacle of the series and it sets up the final book 4 really well. You’re going to love it and I’m sure it’s set to be a firm favourite.

So, watch this space and check back here tomorrow for a brand new cover and a brand new description of book 3. I can’t wait to share it with you all. It’s going to be both a bumpy and a brilliant ride.
