“It’s not the length of time we knew someone that makes them so special. It’s what they brought into our lives.”
WARNING: SPOILERS BELOW
It started off as a normal Thursday morning, but whilst Luke Bright overslept and rushed into work, something sinister was going on only a few miles away. What occurred was something the three of them could never have imagined. The butterfly effect is an odd thing but for Luke, James and Steve it meant something great happened (and especially for James whose life depended on it) – a friendship began. Today. In their alternate reality.
When writing the series, I always knew that I wanted a trio – all the good books and films have trios, I’m not sure why. Is it that the dynamic works better? Is it so two can pair off and lead the other one a little in the background at times? Or is it just a magic number? With my trio, it was the first. All three are so different and yet when they come together (and sorted out their differences) the power they hold as a team is brilliant.
Some of my favourite scenes involve the three of them on their own and I do believe as a unit they are just like brothers. Three strong men who can be vulnerable and kind but also full of banter and quick thinking when it comes down to it.
That first meeting was so important because it was there that the true adventure began and was the catalyst for Luke to stand up against the Atlantic Split. For someone who never knew friendship, having two people who finally got him and shared his morals was ideal. It…just so happened it was forbidden. But that was the beautiful thing about that trio. Luke shouldn’t have been their friend and he knew that, but yet he couldn’t keep away and in return, they changed his whole life.
Luke, James and Steve continue their story throughout the series and it may be surprising what happens along the way. All I can say is that without them, Luke’s life would have been very different, and probably a lot less fulfilling. We all need friends and these guys came along to save him. Even though he didn’t know he needed to be saved. So, happy meeting day guys – you have no idea how significant this moment will be, but I promise you, today is a day that will never be forgotten.
